A Morning Of Hope

This morning we were able to attend "A Morning of Hope" with Bill Strickland. It was a fundraiser for Hope Works, a nonprofit that our church works closely with. In the past year we haven't done as much as we'd like, but boy did this morning make us want to do more. I also feel a little guilty. When I woke up to cold pouring rain and a three year old who was suddenly sleeping in, my bed with the covers pulled over my head seemed like the better idea. I'm glad I ignored the urge.

I just wanted to take a second and write down a couple of things that struck me.

"People are born assets, not liabilities. When we treat them like assets, they'll become assets."

"Beautiful environments make beautiful people."

This morning we learned that the way you treat people matters. The environment that you place people in matters. Another point we were asked to consider is that poverty isn't as much of a problem as wealth is. Wealth has us running in circles chasing it to such a degree that we are ignoring the poor and hungry around us.

These last two weekends have provided us with so much to think about, my brain is truly turning to gush right now. It's hard to know you can't do it all. It's hard to wonder where to start.

Finally, I don't have it. I think I'll be getting it as soon as I can finally get through the five other books I seem to be reading... Make the Impossible Possible by Bill Strickland. If it's anything like his speech, it's worth your time.

Amazing stuff here. I love the asset vs. liability thought. The book sounds amazing as well!
