The Aquarium

On Saturday morning we loaded the van and headed to the Aquarium. It's one of our favorite places to go but we haven't been in over a year. They have been renovating, with the biggest part of the aquarium shut down, it seemed absurd to pay for the membership. (I know that's what helps them make the renovations, but we reinvested in the zoo.)

Anyway, one of Hanan's friends had invited her to a birthday party. We heard there were some really cool new exhibits so we decided to make the day of it. The thought was, Hanan could go off to her little party, Ray, Arleigh, Bria and I would walk around then we could grab Hanan and hike off to their other building. It was a beautiful day to be outside. We were going to make a day of it and justify paying for the membership.

Oh the best laid plans...or whatever that old saying is. Apparently due to some miscommunication, there would be no birthday party at the aquarium. The mom of the birthday girl decided that she would just walk the kids through then take them to a pizza parlor. (So much for a day at the aquarium.) Oh well... we decided to split up, Hanan and I would go with the party. Ray would take Bria and Arleigh off on their own.

All I have to say in thank goodness I am blessed that my girls have sweet little compliant friends. Hanan's friend, Amy was also invited. They are both pretty compliant. At any given point I'm not sure birthday girl's mom knew where her son was, who is Arleigh's age. Those kids took off running. She never asked them to stop. They were all over the place. Hanan and Amy stayed together, always asking where they could do and were never out of my sight. I love that kid!

We met up with the rest of our family. Ray made a grave error in judgment. He got Bria out of the stroller so she could pet the sea rays. Whoops! She would not go back in the stroller once she was out. Arleigh was pushing the stroller and Ray was chasing Bria. At one point, I was spotted, then Bria was with me. I bribed her back into the stroller. (Yes, I will stoop that low.) Then Ray took them to get a snack.

Shortly after (Like a half hour to locate all the kids, get them through the bathroom and out the door.) everyone loaded in cars to caravan to a pizza hut. Hanan enjoyed that part of the party, we sat back in a booth and enjoyed our own lunch.

In the end, we had a nice day. We have our membership again so we'll go back during spring break to see the whole aquarium. Hanan was a little sad that there was no cake. It made her appreciate her birthday parties that much more. It was nice to be able to hang out with Ray without doing lawnwork or worrying about camp or church or any of the other things we've been helping with.

It may not have been what we wanted or expected but it was a good day. (Oh, the top 2 pictures were taken by Arleigh with my old camera. It doesn't do well with a flash.)

I love the aquarium! I would be a bit sad about the cake too~ I wonder how that all went down. What a disappointment for the birthday girl. It is nice to spend "good" time with the hubs, isn't it?

Hmmm...sounded a bit chaotic there for a bit. I would be sad too if there was no cake. It's the best part after the loot bags.

The aquarium sounds fun!!! (Don't worry, I am a briber too!!!) I had to catch up on my blog reading and I felt bad that some of your bad days gave me a smile. It is nice to know that I am not the only mom out there that feels helpless and worn out at times! Wish we lived closer....I would bring you a Sundrop! Hope you have a great week! Miss you-Shanan

I always love going to the aquarium!! Sucks about the one of them being shut at the moment.
My local aquarium recently got refurbished and got 2 new sharks in the process, the kids love them, they did a competition to choose their names.
