Last night we went to the Harbor Fest Fireworks. It has been a tradition for us since the Ericksons invited us to join them on the hospital point about 12 years ago.

We started the tradition by grabbing a bucket of chicken and sitting on the river wall. The big shows are in Norfolk at Waterside. Since we are on hospital grounds, on the Portsmouth side of the river, it's not crowded. We get a great view of the show. The only downside it that the fireworks are set to music. It's hard to hear on this side of the river, but so worth the lack of crowd.

This year, it was hot. Like 100 degrees hot. Believe it or not, I remember one year the Ericksons left early because Jake was sick and it was so cold. When we were walking to the car at 10:30 last night, it was 95. We skipped going to see the pirates earlier in the day because the heat seemed oppressive. I fully expect it to be this hot in July and August, it's a little unusual for us this early in June. In spite of how hot it was, the girls were so good. It was a good thing too. This year we scored invitations to a party on the river. We had fabulous seats. Arleigh and Hanan were very excited. I told them it was like the party that Fancy Nancy went to in the last book. Thank goodness there were tiny appetizers. I would have been in big trouble. We still left the party for snow cones.

We have no less than 42 fireworks pictures and a little video. Don't worry, I won't post them all. The girls loved it. Even Bria stayed awake for the whole show. The noise didn't bother them at all.

If you are ever looking for a vacation, the first full weekend in June, this is a great place to be.

Just wanted to leave a note about what a beautiful family you have. I talk more than anyone you know, yet I sometimes don't say the most important. You have a truly wonderful family. Ray is the best dad I have ever witnessed. BI is, defeated pure evil laziness and stepped up to the plate. I truly believe if there were more parents like you, my job might be easier. Great Job BI and Ray.
